Puppies @ Home

Birthday

Here at MuZari Rhodesians it's

The puppies are here!
7 boys & 3 girls

Star delivered her beautiful babes starting early Thursday morning. I had been up and down all night checking on her, and of course, when I took my dauther to school (leaving my husband to supervise) she decided to get started without me! I came home to two gorgeous puppies (a boy and a girl). The puppies continued to arrive about every 30 minutes until all 10 were here and accounted for!

Our stats are 4 perfect ridged boys, 3 boys with ridge faults (multiple crowns) and 3 perfect ridged girls. Most of the puppies have no white on their front feet and only a very small amount on their back feet, with the only exception being one male who has a white foot on the front, but it is not excessive. Overall an amazing litter and we are just thrilled!

Momma Star is taking great care of the pups, and for now, the only thing on their agenda is eat, sleep and GROW!

Why Spirits?

We thought it explained our puppies to a tee! They are fun, social, outgoing and as diverse in their "flavor" as you can imagine... AND we thought Star and Maverick created a master blend together!

Week One
January 30, 2009

This week has been interesting to say the least! The little spirits have been living up to their name and partying all night long! They seem to be making all kinds of noises at night! That means that I have gotten little sleep!

Just as promised, the puppies have also been very busy just growing! They are now double their birth weight. They are fat little piggies and that is just how we like 'em! Star is doing an amazing job taking care of her 10 little darlings! The puppies had dew claws removed this week which is no party, but it's a good thing to do. No worries now of ripping a dew claw later... that is real nasty!

The puppies have also been assigned their new names!

Our House Specials are...

Jose Cuervo - Perfect Pet Boy            Captain Morgan - Perfect Pet Boy
Jim Beam - 3 Crown Pet Boy            Patron - Perfect Pet Boy
Bacardi - 3 Crown Pet Boy                   Jagermeister - Perfect Pet Boy
Ciroc - 4 Crown Pet Boy           Kahlua - Perfect Pet Girl
Midori - Perfect Pet Girl           Amaretto - Perfect Pet Girl

That's about it for this week. Stay tuned to see what's on tap for next week!

Week Two
February 8, 2009

The puppies are growing, growing, growing and... we have eyes!!! They can finally see the world around them. Well, that may be a bit much, but they can at least see me, mom and each other! The pups are just so very cute and fat! They have started to walk around the whelping box a bit and even attempt a pathetic bark and growl once in a while!

They happily walk over to me when I sit down in the box and were probably surprised today when "grandma" trimmed their nails using a dremmel! They took it in stride though, without too much fussing. Star definitely appreciates that! They also were wormed for the first time.

Hope you enjoy the pics from this week! Each puppy is representing what's "on tap"!

Week Three
February 12, 2009

Well
of course I couldn't forget that this week is the week of LOVE!
Everyone knows that any romantic dinner involves a little spirits of some kind, right?

The spirits have had a pretty amazing week! They are getting so much better on their feet, hardly any swaying now. Yes, they did look like they had imbibed a bit too much of their namesake before! Now they've pretty much got that under control. Not sure if they could pass a sobriety test just yet though!

They can wag their tails and even bark and growl at us! Patron had the nerve to bark and growl at my daughters when they set him on the computer table. It was too cute considering he is so tiny and was all by himself with no back-up! No this does not mean he, or the others, are aggressive. They have just realized they have a voice and using it is the only way they learn how it works!

They have a FULL set of teeth (to my surprise and their mother's I'm sure) very early. Normally they are just starting to break the skin. So, that means that the week coming will bring a new adventure for the pups... FOOD! That is always funny to watch! I'll try and snag a few pics to share... what a mess!

The spirits decided to stray a tiny bit from the theme this week so that they could send you their very own valentines day card! We hope you like them!

Week Four

February 20, 2009

The puppies are turning into the cutest little creatures! They love playing with their toys and each other! They have perfected the bark and use it frequently. They also LOVE their food, as does their mom! They will really start to put on the weight now!

We also started paper training the puppies. It is amazing how quickly they pick up on the whole paper training process. Already they are pretty darn reliable in using their "litter box". Puppies can be seen through out the day crawling in for potty time! Eventually we will change from newspaper to wood pine pellets. This is really cool for the new owners as you can purchase a bag ($6 or so), place it in your yard where you want the puppy to potty and they will ONLY go there since that is what they are accustomed to! Cool, huh? We think so!

No pictures this week since my camera is broke. I will get new ones as soon as I get it back. Worse case scenario, check back next week and we promise to have pics by then!

Week Five

February 26, 2009

The Spirits are getting into all kinds of mischief... like most "underage" juveniles. Putting down paper in their litter box has become quite the comedy. Me trying to hurry to put it down before lots of puppies run under it and then trying to KEEP it down as new newspaper seems to be their favorite toy! I've learned to give them their own sheet of paper and they will play with it just long enough for me to get the real paper down! Those little devils... I mean... angels!

We chose "bottoms up" as our term for this week since the pups are sooo very playful and assume the "bottoms up" invitation for playtime on a regular basis. It is accompanied by a swiftly wagging tail and even a yip once in a while!

Where does the time go? It seems like yesterday that I was waiting for the Spirits to arrive and now we are starting count down to "Home Coming"!! It always sneaks up on me, but I'm sure all of you have been diligently counting the days. Officially, there are 21 days left until the pups will legally be old enough to go to their new homes. Did you know the state of Florida REQUIRES that pups be 8 wks old before being sold? They will be 8 wks on March 19th which is a Thursday.

Since we are getting so close to homecoming, we will be watching the pups extra close for personality traits! Feel free to send us an email and let us know two or three of your favs. Please don't tell us just one; these guys are too cute to have just one favorite!! It will help when deciding which puppy will make the best match for you and your family! Of course we know that is only looks and temperament is the most important, but looks count too!

Wanna see HOW cute they are, check it out below!

Week Seven
March 12, 2009

It is hard to believe that time can move sooo quickly! The puppies go home in just a week and I find myself asking... "where did the time go?". Well I guess the obvious answer would be... "time flies when you're having fun!". Right? So the equally obvious theme for this week was... "Last Call". How sad. I will miss these little buggers when they're gone. They are so cute and have such fun personalities that I know you will all love them too! Now for our last update before pups go home...

The puppies are spending lots of time now out in the puppy "playpen" we have set up around a big oak tree in our yard. There are rocks to jump on and lots of toys to play with and they just love it. The go out each morning and eat breakfast first thing around 8:00am. Then they have all day to play! Then they get dinner around 6:00pm, followed by more playtime and potty time and then it's off to bed around 9:00pm!

They are really good at their paper training so any of you who are interested can put down paper to help with the potty training. Of course you will faze that out over time. They also know to go potty when they go outside so potty training for these guys should be easy!

Below find the last pics before the pups go home. Of course it is required to send me a picture in the first 2 weeks so I can post it here to share with the other new puppy families! Well, it really isn't required but very much appreciated!

Enjoy!
