Birthday!

Bella and Maverick's Patriotic Pups are here!

Bella went into labor at 11:00 am on Monday morning delivering a surprise to us all. No signs of labor and then we walk in and the first pup was here. After struggling for many hours to deliver her brood, we decided to get her over to our wonderful vet. So at 9:30 at night, we loaded up mom and 1 baby and off we went. We decided it was important to get the babies out and so a c-section was prepped. Bella had been x-rayed a week or so prior so we knew she had a very large litter, 13 in fact!! That was just too many for Bella to carry and after a VERY long night, we headed back home with 5 very healthy and beautiful puppies. 4 bouncing boys and 1 little girl. Momma and babies are doing VERY well! They are sleeping and eating. A pattern they will get down extremely well in the next 2 weeks!

As you may have guessed, these little pups decided to make their appearance on Flag Day, so we decided to take a hint from them when choosing our theme for this litter. So, this theme is any and everything patriotic! We are sure to have fun with that over the next 8 weeks and we hope you enjoy it as well! Until next week, enjoy the precious Patriotic Pups first pics (say that 5 times fast!)!

Week One!

The pups have reached thier first week birthday. They are still eating and sleeping the day away. This week they had their dew claws removed. No party for them but better for them in the long run. No accidental ripped due claws later in life. That is a nasty injury. Bella is being a very devoted, wonderful mother. She loves her babies but still would like to move them under the shed outside. We have tried to convince her this is not a good idea, but she isn't buying that! : )

Instead of pictures this week, we decided to do a video. If you notice we are short one puppy, you are right. We lost 1 this week. We think Bella may have accidentally layed on him. After losing so many, it was devastating to lose another but there was nothing we could do. Bella is supervised with her puppies nearly 24 hrs a day, but accidents still happen.

The remaining pups are doing well and we can't wait to see what the next week brings for the Flag pups!

Check out the video! This is a first for us, so we hope you enjoy it!

Week Two!

June 28, 2010

The Flag pups are now 2 weeks old and growing like weeds! Their eyes are open and they can see the world! Well, maybe not the world but dinner is probably a little easier to track down now! The pups have started to wobble around the whelping box a bit now but they are not too steady. They still do a lot of rocking and rolling as they are trying to move around. They will get better at this in the next week and within 2 weeks they will be chasing mom for dinner!  We'll have another video for next week so you can see the difference. This week we will have pictures. I had a lot to do today so I wasn't able to get pics but they will be updated tomorrow so check back tomorrow evening!

This week we have names! They are only litter names for identification.
Each new family will be able to name their puppy whatever they want, but we like names instead of Puppy #1 or puppy #2, etc.
We hope you do to!

They are:
Lady Liberty - aka Libby
Uncle Sam - aka Sammy
American Eagle - aka Eagle
Yankee Doodle - aka Doodle

Until next week...

Flag pups - Week Two!

Week Four!

July 12, 2010

It's been 2 weeks since the last update and boy have the pups changed in that time! They have GROWN sooo much! They are now playing with each other and with us a little and even have a couple of toys in their whelping box. They have started barking and growling and little "Doodle" seems to be the fiestiest. I guess he is small so he has to be tough! : ) The pups had their first taste of food this past week and seemed to love it. Mom too will appreciate the help in the coming weeks!

Personalities are starting to show a bit too. Uncle Sam is the most laid back and nothing seems to faze him. American Eagle seems to be the most playful, and funny pup of the bunch. Lady Liberty is a fiery girl that has her own mind. If she doesn't want to be held, she makes it known! Yankee Doodle is fiesty with his siblings but loves to be held and loved on by us!

Here's the latest pics of the pups!
Remember, you can click each picture to see it larger in a new window!

Flag Pups - Week 4!

Week Five!

The pups are 5 weeks old now and they have turned into PUPPIES! They love to romp and play and bark and growl! They love company and are climbing up the side of the box to see me or anyone else who comes near! They are starting to have play time outside of the whelping box and enjoy exploring the puppy room, with me watching of course! Puppies are worse then little kids about getting into things they shouldn't! Wires, tv remotes, shoes, etc! Make sure you house is puppy proofed before you bring you new puppy home. Get on his/her level and see what you can get into!

The puppies are thouroughly enjoying their puppy food and mom is enjoying the break. She visits the whelping box less frequently everyday and the pups mob her when she does venture close enough for them to latch onto! They also seem to love having company. In fact, our pictures this week are courtesy of one of the puppies soon-to-be new owners! Thanks so much Kelsey for sending the pics! I hope you all enjoy them as well!
