BIRTHDAY!!

there was a foreign beauty named Ziva. She fell in love with a handsome prince named Maverick. They loved each other very much. One day, Ziva gave birth to their beautiful family of 10 puppies. It was a hard and long labor that lasted over 24 hours but once she was done, Maverick told her that she had given him 10 prized puppies. They decided to name their children after their favorite fairy tales since they had a fairy tale romance themselves! They had *4 pretty little girls and *6 handsome boys! (We will tell you their names later in the story.) Their first week of life was full of love! Their mother took very good care of them because she loved them more than anything. She never wanted to leave them (even to go outside to potty!). Of course her caretakers understood her devotion because they too were smitten with the little ones. Together Ziva and her caretakers made sure that the puppies only knew love and kindness during this important time in their life. They knew that what they needed most in their first week was love and nurishment. Ziva promised that no puppies would ever be taken care of better than her babies!

*(If you noticed the number of boys and girls changed, you are right! I miscounted! Sneaky little things, getting counted twice!)

Stay tuned for the next chapter...

One (and a half) Weeks!

The puppies are doing amazing. Ziva is the best mom and has LOTS of milk so we have fat, little cherubs! They are just growing like weeds. They still eat and sleep most of the time, but that will change very rapidly! See below for the new pictures and the next chapter in our Fairytale!

Note: You can click on each picture to see it enlarged in a new window.

Chapter 2:
The pups grew and grew and before Ziva knew it, they had nearly doubled in size in just one week! Did they eat a magic cake to make them bigger? No, they just liked to eat like little piggies and then fall asleep and wake up and do it again. Ziva was happy because her babies still cuddled close to her all the time and were relatively easy to care for. She knew it wouldn't be long before they would start to walk and then run all over the place, so she enjoyed the quiet times while she could. She much appreciated the babies weekly nail trims which made nursing so much more comfortable. The caretakers we as diligent as ever keeping Ziva and her family happy.

Two Weeks!

The pups are 2 weeks old now and the biggest news for this week is...we have EYES!! They all have their eyes open and can see the world, however most likely what they see is very fuzzy. That of course will get better the older they get. Dew claws were removed at 3 days old and are now almost completely healed. They are vigorous eaters and have no trouble pushing a littermate out of the way to make sure they get their fair share! It is quite humorous to watch, so I decided to take a quick video to share with you all this week instead of pictures. Since we just snapped pics a couple of days ago, I thought the video might be more fun! I was changing out the bedding and when I came back, this is what I saw...

Chapter 3....
One day when one of the babies woke up he realized he could SEE something! It wasn't very clear, but he could see...his eyes had finally opened!! All he could see was his dam. She leaned down and licked his nose and then she looked around to see who else could see her. To her surprise, all of her babies were staring back at her with cloudy blue eyes! None of them could see very well but they could see what was most important in their life, their mother.

Four Weeks!

Well it has gotten very busy in fairytale land! The pups are keeping us busy morning, noon and night! They love playing with each other and even us a little. Barks, yips and growls are heard coming from the whelping box on a regular basis. Sometimes they seemed shocked that the noise came from THEM!

They have had a few visits from their adorning fans and seem to enjoy it. They have also started eating solid food! They love it and clean their bowls like good little pups. Ziva is less enthused with them at this point since they now have teeth and don't mind using them. Luckily though, with the addition of solid food, they don't nurse quite so often! We will be adding new pictures in the next couple of days, so stay tuned. Maybe even a video too for everyone to see them playing. We'll see... : )

OK, so we've gotten a little behind on our story but I haven't forgotten about it. Let's get caught up!

Chapter 4:
As the puppies' vision continued to improve, something else exciting came their way. Their caretakers brought them soup! Well, not soup exactly, more like...porage? The puppies dove right in. One little girl of course thought it was too dry, so her caretakers added some water. Then she thought it was too wet! Couldn't anyone get it "just right"? Any guess who the picky little girl was?

Chapter 5:
As time went on Ziva started to think that her little darlings were starting to act more like devils. They were starting to get teeth and were not too gentle at meal time. Good thing the caretakers were bringing them porage to eat 3 times a day! The pups would climb on their mother and try to bite her ears. Ziva just didn't understand what happened to her sweet little angels. Of course they thought it was all great fun and continued to jump and play and even BARK and GROWL at her! Can you imagine that?

Six Weeks!

Well who can believe it has been SIX weeks since the fairytale began!?! The pups are so much bigger now. I included their weights below! In fact the biggest surprise is Rapunzel who is the biggest in the whole litter! Guess there isn't much to do locked in a tower, but eat! ; ) Anyway, the pups are outside most of the time now and only come in for visits. 10 puppies get very rowdy AND stinky (no matter how fast you remove the poo!). They love being outside now as they have LOTS of room to run and play and be crazy puppies! Ziva is totally over them now! She only comes in for short visits, during which the pups try to steal a quick snack. So, we removed her from their play pen for a couple days to let her milk dry up. Then she will be able to come back and play without them driving her crazy! The pups were wormed again this week. It tastes horrible (don't ask me how I know) and they don't like it much, but it is necessary. They are on the countdown to homecoming now as I'm sure are their new families! See their new, adorable pics below!

Chapter 6:
Ziva figured that her pups needed more room to play so she asked the caretakers to take the puppies outside! Boy what an adventure that was! They could run faster and farther than they ever had before! They could jump and bark and no one cared at all! Then after a long day of playing they realized that the best place in the world really was by their mother's side! She loved to cuddle with them at night and sometimes she even slept in their bed with them!

Chapter 7:
Ziva continued to watch her babies grow with pride. She told them everyday how proud their sire would be if he could only see them now. They reminded her a lot of him! Very sweet and loving and a couple like her, calm and easy going. She loved to sit and watch the differences between them all. She also started to leave them alone with the caretakers for longer periods of time to prepare them for when they would leave to search out new lands of their own. It was hard, but she understood it was part of life. She still visited several times every day and they were always happy to see their loving, and still devoted mother!

Seven Weeks!

The fairytales are an amazing bunch of puppies!! OK, so I admit to being a little biased, but they really are great! They already know they are not SUPPOSED to potty in the house, come when called, etc. Such good little puppies! They got to play with the cats (Baily and Rocky) this week and our jack russell, Missy. She is normally very hyper, but she loved the pups. A couple decided to see if she was good for a meal and surprisingly, she let them try! It was pretty funny considering they are as big as she is! When she came out, they followed her around the pen! See the video of that below titled "Puppy Go Round". In case you were thinking the puppies looked small or the cats looked really big...it's the cats! They are ragdoll cats and grow very large! Anyways, we snapped some candids of the litter this week and took two videos. We will do individual photos for the last time this weekend and then everyone will be getting ready to head home. I know you are all excited about that! Check out the pics below!

Eight Weeks!

Well the Fairytales are 8 weeks old and are off to new adventures!! It is bittersweet to see them go but I know they will have lives full of love from their new owners! This has been a great litter and they are smart as whips! So, to the new owners, stay on your toes! ; ) We will miss them but can't wait to see pictures of them in their new lives! Last, but not least, the final chapter to our fairy tale...

Chapter 8:
Ziva knew the day had finally come to send her wonderful babies off to find great adventures of their own. She had raised them well and knew they had the tools necessary for success, but still she would miss them! Each one had a strength and character all to themselves and she knew once they settled somewhere, they would do great things! She gave each a kiss and a final cuddle and then sent them off. As she watched them go, she quietly said...

Goodbyes are not forever.
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean I'll miss you
Until we meet again!
